The shop

Kuro opened in July 2011 in Komae. According to the shop's Tabelog notes, the owner trained at Ore no Sora in Takadanobaba. The shop describes itself as a local independent that makes its noodles, soup and toppings by hand.

The bowl

The dipping broth is made by boiling Koshu Kenmi Akadori chicken over high heat until cloudy, then adding mackerel flakes, bonito flakes and niboshi. The extra-thick noodles are made in-house each morning, and the same noodles are used for the chuka soba. Noodle dishes come with sudachi citrus from Tokushima, and the extra-hot condiment on the table is cayenne pepper.

How to order

Start with the tsukesoba (chicken-and-seafood). Regular (250 g), medium (300 g) and large (350 g) portions cost the same, and an extra-large 500 g is available for a surcharge. Curry tsukesoba and a rich chuka soba are also offered; the official site also lists miso tsukesoba.
